General Motors Proving Ground - Vehicle Dynamics Test Area Reconstruction
Milford, Michigan
Worked with GMPG engineering staff to evaluate alternatives for rehabilitation / reconstruction of the 80 acre brake testing pad including crack repair & overlays, in-place recycling and reconstruction. The study included an extensive crack survey, pavement core sampling and testing and life cycle cost estimates for each repair option. Services during construction included plant inspection and materials testing.

Flagstar Bank Corporate Headquarters
Troy, Michigan
Provided geotechnical work for the design phase of this multi-wing, 4 story, 351,000 SF office building project to be located on Corporate Drive in Troy, Michigan. Field work included soil test borings and test pits extending to depths as deep as 70 feet below site grade. Laboratory testing included index tests and more advanced strength testing on tube samples.

General Motors Proving Ground - ISO Noise Pass By Test Facility Construction
Milford, Michigan
Worked with GMPG's engineering staff and a local asphalt producer to develop an asphalt mixture which meets the requirements of the current ISO specifications for vehicle exterior noise testing. Services included testing aggregate sources, developing a mix design to meet the ISO specifications, performing plant inspection during mix production, performing field and laboratory tests to verify the properties of the pavement and preparing documentation report.

Detroit Manufacturing Training Center
Provided geotechnical work for the design phase of the project including borings and soil testing for the Bing Group/Ford Motor Company skilled trades training facility in Detroit, Michigan. Work included soil testing and borings for foundation design and identification of fill, rubble and abandoned underground structures from former site buildings.

We were retained to develop ISO specification exterior noise test surfaces. Services included a review of local aggregate sources, developing a mix design to meet the specifications, working with the contractor, local supplier and local consultant to install the surface and preparing a documentation report.

G & H Landfill Superfund Site
Shelby Township, Michigan
Provided comprehensive materials engineering, field and laboratory testing services for a $20 Million, 100 acre superfind site closure. Closure plan included construction of a composite cap over the site, installation of a soil-bentonite slurry cutoff wall keyed into the underlying clay layer, construction of a groundwater collection system and treatment plant and wetlands mitigation. Services included quality control field and laboratory testing of cap components, collection system drainage media, soil-bentonite slurry cutoff wall components, structural concrete for the treatment plant and hydric soil testing and analysis for wetland mitigation.

BOP Disposal Area Closure
Gary, Indiana
Provided materials engineering, field and laboratory testing services for a $5 Million, 50 acre on-site special waste landfill closure at the U.S. Steel Complex in Gary, Indiana. Closure plan includes construction of a composite cap over the landfill and site storm water drainage system improvements. Services include quality control field and laboratory testing of cap components, PVC liner, storm water drainage media and engineering analysis of proposed vegetative media amendments.

Rittman Paperboard Residual Waste Landfill
Rittman, Ohio
Provided materials engineering and laboratory testing services for a on-site special waste landfill closure at the Rittman Paperboard Plant. Work included the construction of a soil-bentonite slurry cutoff wall and landfill cap extension. Services include materials engineering, soil-bentonite backfill mix design and confirmatory laboratory testing of completed cutoff wall materials.

Municipal Local Road Improvements
City of Southfield, Michigan
We continue the long-standing relationship with the City of Southfield providing materials testing services for the annual concrete paving program as well as for improvements at the Civic Center.

St. Clair County WWTP Outfall Improvements
A new outfall extending some 700 feet into the North Channel of the St. Clair River was planned. Field work included marine borings to depths of 30 feet below the mudline along the route. Laboratory work included physical testing of sediment samples to evaluate engineering characteristics and chemical analysis to develop dredge spoil disposal options.

The Green Point Landfill Closure Project
Saginaw, Michigan
Developed the concept plan, construction plans, technical specifications and bid documents for the closure of a 40 acre municipal landfill at the Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant. The design included the composite soil cover, 200,000 SF of slurry trench cutoff, 5500 ft of leachate collection drain, pump stations, force mains, surface drainage features, site roads and appurtenances.

Proposed Walter B. Ford Building - The Center for Creative Studies
Detroit, Michigan
The new building will be located on the CCS campus east of the Detroit Institute of Arts in Detroit, Michigan. The 3 story, 25,000 SF first floor building will provide additional classroom and office space. Field work included soil test borings to depths as deep as 50 feet below site grade.

Pollution Control Facilities, Phase III
City of Southfield, Michigan
Provided geotechnical work for Phase III of the sanitary sewer improvements project in southwestern Southfield, Michigan. Combined with Phases I & II which we completed earlier, these projects include nearly 15,000 LF of soil borings.

Ford Motor Company - Dearborn Proving Grounds, Advanced Vehicle Simulation Roadways Project
Dearborn, Michigan
Served as a consultant to Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. for design and construction of both the Ride Lanes project and the World Car Project. Services included performing soil test borings, construction materials testing and providing geotechnical engineering services for embankment and roadway design including development of a surcharge/wick drain concept for strengthening soft foundation soils beneath the power hop hill and reducing post-construction settlement.

General Motors Proving Ground - Annual Road and Track Surface Paving Programs

ITT Winter Brake Test Facility
Brimley, Michigan
Served as geotechnical engineering consultant for development of the 600 acre automotive brake test facility west of Sault St. Marie. Work included soil test borings and a comprehensive laboratory testing program with split barrel, tube and bulk soil samples. We provided design and construction recommendations for pavement sections, subgrade lime stabilization, earthwork and embankments.

Also performed field testing and inspection on concrete for foundations and installation of caissons.

Highway Soil Survey and Bridge Structure Borings - US Route 30, from Illinois Route 31 to US Route 34
Kane and Kendall Counties, Illinois
Performed a highway soil survey for the proposed widening and reconstruction of 4 miles of the highway. Route 30 at Route 31, three major bridge structure widenings, a new six span bridge structure over the Fox River and numerous retaining wall structures. The field exploration included structure borings including bedrock cores, auger profile borings and pavement cores. The exploration and analysis includes the subsurface exploration, field and laboratory testing, analysis of the data obtained, recommendations and preparation of report.

Performed highway soil survey for 3.5 miles of proposed improvements to Quentin Road, the majority of which is scheduled for five lanes. Work consisted of site reconnaissance, review of pavement conditions, utility clearance, taking soil profile borings and pavement cores, laboratory soil testing, preparation of soil profile drawings and preparation of soil survey report and recommendations.
